WHERE GENTLE HEARTS RESIDE

Iris and daisies adorn the front lawn
A white swing sways gently, grandma's quilt laid upon
Arches of gingerbread and shutters of green
Ferns in clay pots and a walkway of stone

Bushes with lilacs of lavender hue
Giant oak trees in a yard with a view
Roses and ivy climb the trellis of white
A wrap around porch to sit on at night

Memories of childhood, the giggles we shared
The aroma of cookies that wafted through the air
Black licorice and squirrel nuts, a penny apiece
Root beer from the cellar that Grandpa had made

A home with a heart and soft memories to share
Where gentle hearts reside, year after year
Sweet fragrance drifts softly through curtains of lace
My mind once again hears the squeak of the gate
